Description

The extreme climate of the Gallipoli peninsula brought about many hardships for the men of the Australian Imperial Force. They nonetheless adapted quickly to their new surroundings. The standard issue woollen service dress tunic of the AIF was among the first items to be stowed away, in favour of cooler flannel and cotton undershirts. The distinctive broad-brimmed slouch hat, on the other hand, was indispensable in protecting the Australian soldier from the scorching sun. This figurine represents a typical AIF infantryman at Gallipoli during the summer of 1915. He wears the 1908 pattern webbing that carried up to 150 rounds of .303 ammunition for his SMLE rifle.

Figurine is approximately 20cm tall.
